A Bookish Proposal
Read all about how my fiancé set up this super dope Bookish Proposal to ask that I be his Partner-In-Life!
2020 was a whirlwind for many people, myself included, but there was also some good that came out of this year!
I started this blog, which has given me an outlet to discuss things that I love, and I launched my Self-Care Line RoyalVibess!
But the thing that made 2020 the official Year To Remember for me was when my favorite person in the entire world PROPOSED 💍 Y’all I’m a whole FIANCEE out here!
With everyone’s congratulations, always came “So how did he do it?”. Garrett and I don’t have a video of our proposal, so I’ve had to tell and retell this story so many times lol I thought, why not just write about the proposal on When Books Make Scents?
The Proposal
I’ll just start by saying that I was pretty irritable that day. I knew Garrett and I were going out, but to be completely honest, once it got closer to the day, I really didn’t feel like going anywhere. I was in some pain, and my family was making a huge deal of what I wore and looked like. I tend to not do the most as far as make up goes, so whenever I would tell my sister that I had a date or an event, she and my mum would make a huge deal by making sure my make up was done. Which is why I didn’t think too much of it when they were being annoying in regards to my appearance (and rightfully so 😭).
When Garrett picked me up I was already pretty hangry, and then he says that he’s forgotten his wallet, so we’ve got to go back to his house to get it🙄 There I was all dolled up with a screwed up face because I hadn’t eaten all day!
We’re driving and talking ( I can barely remember what we talked about) and when we got into his neighborhood he asked if I wanted to go to this Little Free Library. For those of you who don’t know, an LFB is a standalone unit where people place their used books for others to borrow or keep for FREE! Every time I come across a new one, I make sure to stop and check it out. Of course I’d already been to this LFB a few times since it was literally right around the corner from his house. I told him that this one never had any good books in it, but we could stop if he wanted too.
We pulled up to the lot and Garrett asked me about the Little Free Library that I’d visited the week before. He helped me out of the car and then walked over to the LFB. I was going on and on about the books that I’d gotten as I hobbled over (I’m on crutches). Then he picked up an African American Literature textbook and I say “That’s cool, I’ve never seen one for kids. We can look in the table of contents to see who all is included in it.” And then I saw a book that I’d been wanting to read for years! I literally screamed because there I was, not even wanting to be at this Little Free Library, and this book was right there waiting for me!
Garrett had no idea what was going on, as he still had the African American Literature book in his hands. When I asked him to grab the other book he passed over it three or four times before I felt myself getting irritated. Why was he taking so long to get the book! I had him give me the African American Literature book while he found the one I actually wanted. I opened the textbook, hoping to find the table of contents, and what I found was so much better!
The front page read “Will You Marry Me Tatiana~70Years” (70years is a little inside joke we’ve had since we first got together three years ago). When I looked up, Garrett was on one knee holding the most beautiful ring out towards me! Our families popped out from their hiding places and it was wonderful!
I couldn’t have asked for a more thoughtful or creative proposal 🖤 The fact that he included my love for reading and culture was just amazing! I’m so happy to be able to spend the rest of my life with someone who puts my thoughts and needs first.
